Dr. Mike McLaughlin is the owner of Animal Medical Center of Cumming. He attended Auburn University for both his undergraduate and doctorate degrees, graduating in the spring of 1991. His clinical experience includes practicing in hospitals in North Carolina, Alabama and Georgia. He enjoys building personal relationships with both pets and their owners. In his personal time, Dr. Mike and his wife Kim stay busy raising his daughter, Sarah Kay. He enjoys traveling and his hobbies include fishing and hiking. Dr. Mike welcomes you to stop by and visit at any time.
Dr. Joy Markford graduated from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 2009. She received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Kennesaw State University and a Bachelor of Psychology from Penn State. She previously worked for AMC as a veterinary technician before attending grad school. Dr. Joy and her husband Brian are the proud parents of 3 adorable children. She enjoys photography, traveling and spending time with her family.
Dr. Stephanie Smith graduated from the University of Florida in 2003 and has been a Georgia resident ever since. She spent the next six years practicing emergency medicine and critical care before transitioning to a doctor that is awake during the day.
Dr. Stephanie has an interest in behavioral medicine and stresses the importance of a fear free visit to the veterinarian. She also enjoys surgery, internal medicine, and exotics. Her interest in unusual patients started at Disney’s Animal Kingdom when she completed an animal behavior internship. She studied elephants, mandrills, rhinos, and flamingos. The first flamingo born at Animal Kingdom was named Stephanie in her honor.
Dr. Stephanie spends her free time watching her son play Lacrosse, kayaking on the river, camping, or listening to live music. Traveling is a hobby and both Dublin and London are on her bucket list.
Dr. Lindsey is the newest addition to our team. She graduated scholar athlete of the year from Meridian Community College before transferring to Mississippi State University to earn her bachelor’s degree in wildlife, fisheries, and aquaculture. Dr. Lindsey graduated from Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine and has special interests in behavior, internal medicine, and exotic animal medicine. In her spare time, she enjoys playing any kind of sport, fantasy football, hiking with her dog and fiancé, and cuddle time with her red tabby cat.
